GEORGE NEWS - A patrol member of the Blanco Neighbourhood Watch (BNW) sustained a severe injury to his left hand after he was attacked by two men with a panga in Blanco last night, Thursday 9 September.
The incident happened at approximately 22:20 near the graveyard in Maitland Street.
The victim is currently hospitalised and undergoing surgery in an attempt to save his hand.
"The victim's fellow patrol member was sprayed with pepper spray in his eyes and incurred damages to his car," said Southern Cape police spokesperson, Cap Malcolm Pojie.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated by the George Detective Branch.
"It is alleged that the two men were busy with patrols in their neighbourhood when they spotted the two suspects. A confrontation ensued, leading to the serious assault on the two local residents. No arrests has been made yet," said Pojie.
