GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) was delighted to announce that Mike Vonk, a seasoned NSRI volunteer and the Chief Executive Officer of George Regional Hospital for the past 13 years, will succeed Dr Cleeve Robertson as Chief Executive Officer in October 2024.
Mike’s deep and enduring passion for the NSRI spans three generations of volunteers within his family.
He is married and has two sons and a daughter. Mike has served as an NSRI volunteer for 14 years, including six years as Deputy Station Commander and the last two years as Station Commander at Station 23 in Wilderness.
His extensive experience provides him with a thorough understanding of the challenges the NSRI faces in achieving its vision of a water-safe nation. Through his leadership at the Wilderness NSRI station, he has been actively involved in both operational and preventative efforts.
In October, Mike will join the NSRI management team in Cape Town, ensuring a seamless transition as he takes over from the retiring CEO, Dr Cleeve Robertson. The NSRI extends its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Robertson for his exemplary service over the past eleven years and looks forward to Mike Vonk’s leadership in guiding this vital community organization dedicated to saving lives, changing lives, and creating futures across South Africa.
