GEORGE NEWS - George Mayor Melvin Naik will host the annual staff wellness and empowerment initiative on Friday 24 November.
The George municipal staff will start the day with a "Big Walk", starting from Outeniqua Park stadium at 08:00, down Langenhoven Street, right into Herrie Street, left into Varing Street and left again into Progress Street. From the municipal building they will walk up York Street (direction George Museum) and turn left into Langenhoven Street again, back to the stadium.
No traffic lanes will be closed on the day and the staff will be guided by Traffic Enforcement. The walk will take no longer than 45 minutes.
George Council authorised the closure of municipal offices for the day and requests the public's patience and understanding in this regard. Naik requested the public of George to kindly plan around this closure.
Municipal services will be affected as follows:
Emergency and essential services: available as normal, during working hours from 07:45 until 16:30 and after hours.
Finance Services: closed for the day, but the public will be able to make inquiries regarding their accounts and payments at Ontec, Eagles Building, Second Floor, 5 Progress Street. Payments can be made from 08:00 until 15:30 at Ontec. The public may also contact the Ontec office on 044 873 5474. The George Municipality after hours number for finances is 072 874 2544.
Traffic and law enforcement: will be operational, but the offices will be closed.
Refuse removal: residents in Loerie Park, Bergsig and Eden, Glenwood, George East as well as business premises that have their refuse taken away on a Friday, will have it removed on Thursday 23 November. This is a once-off arrangement and all schedules will return to normal the following week.
Landfill site and transfer station: open on 24 November.
Civil Engineering Services complaints: office open on the day at the JJ Watson building, York Street (next to the main civil engineering services office) for any civil related queries. Phone: 044 801 9262.
Electrotechnical services: skeleton staff will be available at their office on the corner of Brick and Nywerheid streets, George Industrial Area for queries on the day. Phone: 044 801 9222.
Bookings and payments for George municipal halls and venues: will be done on Thursday 23 November for the weekend of 25 and 26 November.
Auxiliary services and emergencies: Alwyn Joseph and Abraham Lewee will be on standby and can be reached on 079 251 5468 and 083 418 4588, respectively.
All emergency and essential services will be operational from 07:45 until 16:30.
