GEORGE NEWS - "I miss my child, he was a good son. He had his faults and quirks but he was always respectful to adults," said Cathleen Williams, mother of Serano "Boya" Williams (20) who was shot dead in Rosemoor on Saturday 24 August.
Boya was shot during an alleged confrontation with a security guard at a shop on the corner of O'Connell and Deur streets.
This happened during an "after tears" event following the funeral for Linden Sysaar, who was murdered across the street on 11 August.
"I was lying in bed at home when I heard the gunshots," said Williams. "I wasn't bothered too much because we hear gunshots almost every day. Then I heard people in the street yelling, 'They shot Boya!'. I immediately ran outside, straight through the chaos, to find my son lying on the ground covered in blood. A friend came to me and said we can't wait for the ambulance."
They loaded Boya in a car and raced to the hospital. "In the car, as my son lay on my lap, I could see he wasn't with me anymore, but I still had hope," said Williams. But all hope was shattered at the hospital when he was declared dead.
The funeral for Boya will be held on 7 September at 36 Truter Street.
