GEORGE NEWS - Sections of Merriman Street from Hibernia Street to Nelson Mandela Boulevard will be closed to traffic from 07:30 to 17:00 daily for construction works up until 14 December for upgrades.
The project comprises two phases:
Phase 1 - relocation of various existing underground services; and
Phase 2 - construction of new sidewalks, curbs, road layer works and asphalt surfacing.
Phase 2 will be conducted from mid-January to May 2019.
Municipal services will be disrupted during reconnections. Advance notification of planned temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.
Site access will be managed and communicated to residents and businesses to ensure that minimum disruption is caused.
Extra care is to be taken by road users and pedestrians throughout the duration of the entire construction period. Adherence to temporary road signage and markings will be required.
The entire road will be open to two-way traffic for the period 14 December 2018 until 13 January 2019.
Temporary bus stops will be provided when required.
