GEORGE NEWS - Three of the suspects in the murder and kidnapping case of two missing women of Thembaletbu, Vutolwethu Tunywa (40), Afrika Puleni (37) and Simphiwe Kewana (30), abandoned their bail application in the George Magistrate's Court yesterday, 8 January.
The fourth suspect, Nombulelo Kewana (40), will apply for bail on Monday 13 January.
They were arrested on Sunday 29 December 2024, after the Thembalethu police made a breakthrough in their investigation.
The investigation was launched after two women, a mother and daughter, were reported missing on Saturday 28 December. They had been abducted the previous day from a house in Zone 3.
During the search, police found a 23-year-old woman with multiple injuries at a medical facility in George. Another 23-year-old woman later came forward, alleging she had been assaulted by the same suspects but managed to escape.
The investigation took a devastating turn when officers discovered the body of a 61-year-old woman, Roseline Jansen, among some bushes in Hansmoeskraal near Pacaltsdorp on 29 December.
Evidence suggests that the victims were assaulted at a tavern in Zone 3 before the tragic events unfolded.
According to reliable sources, the victims had done work for one of the suspects who owns a tavern in Thembalethu. It is alleged that a large sum of money went missing from the tavern and that the women were accused of stealing it, leading to their abduction and assault.
