GEORGE NEWS - A man (62) from Johannesburg was arrested on the N2 between Port Elizabeth and George on Saturday 9 April, after being found in possession of 19 000 Mandrax tablets with an estimated value of R1 million.
The tablets were destined for distribution in the Western and Southern Cape.
This was a joint intelligence-driven operation by the George Hawks and their counterparts from the Easter Cape.
Based on information at hand, they pulled over a suspicious Honda Ballade that was travelling towards the Western Cape. During the search they discovered packets filled with Mandrax tablets concealed in bags underneath various parts of the chassis of the vehicle.
The man who was arrested is scheduled to appear in the Motherwell magistrates’ court today, Monday 11 April.
Police provincial management from the Western-and-Eastern Cape commended those members involved for their dedication and commitment to eradicate drug trafficking and the abuse thereof.
