GEORGE NEWS - Firefighters of the Thembalethu fire station are elated after their daily working space has been spruced up in a revamp project. Last year, Oakhurst Insurance and partners spearheaded a revamp project at the George Fire Department. Continuing their support of fire services, they recently completed renovations to the Thembalethu fire station.
The project included a painting overhaul, new furniture, a comfortable entertainment area, interior decorating, items of bedding items and lots more.
The revamp was made possible with the funds raised at the International Firefighters' Day (IFFD) celebrations held in May as well as generous donations from George-based businesses.

Chief fire officer of the George Fire Department Neels Barnard said, "It is this overwhelming support demonstrated by Oakhurst Insurance, members of the community as well as businesses throughout George, that reminds us as emergency service professionals why it is that we do what we do. It is an honour to serve this community and we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who made this wonderful revamp possible."
Peter Grindlay, managing executive of Oakhurst Insurance, said, "It was an absolute privilege to be able to assist our firefighting heroes by simply making their surroundings a little more comfortable. I am exceedingly grateful and humbled by the support of our partners, as well as the massive generosity of the people of George.
"This small gesture of gratitude pales in significance to the sacrifices these amazing people make on a daily basis."
Celebrating the new look last Thursday, 14 June, at the fire station are Peter Grindlay from Oakhurst Insurance (third right), chief fire officer Neels Barnard (centre) and George councillor Cecil Noble (with cap) with Thembalethu Fire Department's firefighters.
Oakhurst thanked their partners who helped make this all possible: Blitsdruk, The Cooling Company, Coastal Electrical, Curtain and Blind Studio, Cat Signs, Foam Factory, Frank's Flooring, George Picture Framers, Ideal Lighting, MMA Office Furniture and Paint Centre.
