GEORGE NEWS - The Community Wellness Project (CWP) is an initiative that equips the youth with the critical knowledge they need to lead healthier, safer lives.
The CWP is currently running its transformative Healthy Lifestyles programme with the Grade 8 learners of Parkdene Secondary School. The programme started in March.
The programme addresses some of the most pressing health and social challenges affecting South African youth, including HIV, TB, STIs and substance abuse, while also fostering healthy relationships and responsible decision-making.
CWP is led by Freddy Trout, founder of People Against Substance Abuse (Pasa) who has nearly two decades of experience working with young people. He delivers the programme in a way that is relatable, impactful and engaging.
"This programme isn't just about sharing information - it's about empowering learners to make better choices for their lives and futures," says Trout.
The CWP is a non-profit organisation committed to community development beyond the school system. It offers its services at places of learning, churches and youth groups, and also conducts corporate training on the critical issues mentioned.
"We empower members of our communities to live holistically healthier lives through education and clinic services to increase awareness and contribute to the prevention of HIV, TB, sexually transmitted diseases, and unwanted teenage pregnancies, gender-based violence, substance abuse issues and other related issues.," says Trout.
Training is done at businesses as part of the organisation's resource mobilisation. It will especially benefit businesses who would like to improve their BBBEE score, as CWP is a level one contributor.
Organisations and businesses interested in collaborating with the CWP in their mission to equip individuals with the knowledge and tools to build healthier lifestyles and stronger communities, can reach out to Trout on 071 090 4450 or communitywellnesseden@gmail.com to schedule a programme or training.
Small group sessions were held during which the programme topics were discussed.
