GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality LGBTIQA+ Helpdesk in the Community Development department hosted a Human Rights Day programme last week.
The programme focused on discrimination and mental health issues among individuals of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as sex workers.
The attendees formed a human chain in front of the George Civic Centre, which symbolised support for victims of human rights violations.
"The theme for this year's event was #Leave No One Behind," said Jonathan Fortuin, co-ordinator of the LGBTIQA+ Helpdesk at the George Municipality.
A Human Rights Toolkit workshop was conducted by the George Municipality LGBTQIA+ Helpdesk, in partnership with Social Health and Empowerment. Topics focused on at the workshop were collective trauma, discrimination, community stigma and health care trauma and debriefing.
