GEORGE NEWS - More than 100 children gathered at New Dawn Park sports grounds for a vibrant Youth Day celebration organised by the domestic violence and gender-based organisation, Legally You, on Saturday 16 June.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the free services available to victims of violence and abuse. Representatives from Thuthuzela, Families South Africa (Famsa), the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca), and members of Social Health and Empowerment (She) were present to provide information and support.
The day also featured stalls from the Pacaltsdorp Community Business Association (PBCA), offering a variety of sweets, clothes, earrings and other items.
Key participants included George Municipality, Pacaltsdorp Police, Pacaltsdorp CPF, and the Department of Justice, who all played significant roles in making the event a success.
In addition to the important outreach activities, the day was filled with fun and entertainment for the children. Eden FM's live broadcast with presenters Jason Stanley, Sebastian of the Morning Show, and Jonny set an energetic tone. A team from Virgin Active led an engaging training session on self-defence and fitness, keeping the young participants active and entertained.
Local music artists LeClue and Geraldo Lewis captivated the crowd with their performances, and TikTok influencer Ranisha Jordaan travelled from Knysna to deliver a motivational message to the youth.
Advocate Marilyn Scheepers-Olifant, founder and CEO of Legally You, expressed her gratitude for the strong turnout.
"It gladdens my heart to see how the people of George and the Southern Cape stand together," she said.
The Youth Day celebration in New Dawn Park was not only a day of enjoyment for the children but also a crucial initiative in raising awareness and providing support to those affected by violence and abuse.
