GEORGE NEWS - A labour law crash course will be presented by local labour law expert Dr Lukas du Preez on Wednesday 22 May in George.
The course is held for employer empowerment and in aid of the Emmaüs protected workshop for intellectually challenged people which is struggling financially due to lowered subsidies from the Department of Social Development, among others.
Du Preez's course covers the latest crucial aspects for employers in labour law related to effective disciplinary action and practical aspects such as suspension, desertion, harassment, intoxication, dishonesty, union interaction, dispute avoidance, strikes, etc.
Video footage of an ideal disciplinary hearing and the actual dealing with a strike will be used.
This is a fast-moving, practical presentation covering the basic principles of labour law and latest developments, with the aim of preventing costly and time consuming disputes for employers.
Comprehensive workbooks and updated 'draft' employment contracts are included in the fee. Beverages and refreshments will be available.
Du Preez is a well-known advocate with more than 40 years experience in labour law.
He consulted exclusively for management across industry throughout South Africa and acted. He consulted for large national and multi-national companies and many local employers in the Southern Cape in recent years.
He was also previously labour law advisor of the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut (AHi) and holds a doctorate in labour law.
The cost of the course is R850.
