GEORGE NEWS - The Pacaltsdorp Riding Club hosted a festive community event in celebration of its sixth birthday on Saturday 4 November.
Held at the New Dawn Park Sportsgrounds, the day-long celebration was welcomed by the community of New Dawn Park and brought together people of all ages for some fun, food and togetherness.
The annual event, organised by the Pacaltsdorp Riding Club in collaboration with local NGOs and businesses, is a heartfelt effort to give back to the community of Pacaltsdorp.
The celebration offered a free meal, drinks, snacks and entertainment to everyone in attendance, thanks to the support of generous sponsors and the involvement of Zonia Enterprises (PTY) Ltd, Bomenslike Operatief (NPC), and individual donors.
Local artists like Ellie Starr Music, Terrible Dan, Lil King, Dreezy Dre and EgoNege provided live music, filling the air with rap in both Afrikaans (rymklets) and English, and dancehall music that had attendees dancing and celebrating together. As could be expected, the progress of the club was also celebrated with horse riding, which the youth who attended thoroughly enjoyed. "I rode five times; next year, I'll ride 10 times," said one of the happy youngsters.

A dedicated group of lady volunteers prepared and served meals to more than 170 children and about 60 adults. The spread included vetkoek, a hearty meal, drinks, snacks and, of course, delicious cake. The club chairperson, Verdi Alaart, expressed his gratitude. "Just grateful and happy, it's good to see the youth smile in a time like this; it shows there is hope."
One of the attendees was pleased about the opportunity given to the local artists. "This is a good place for an artist to grow alongside the supporters; it's a special platform," he said.
The talented DJ of the day, Alderiquo "Ras Cloud" Tromp, ensured the music never stopped, and professional sound was provided by Eugene Grootboom. Bomenslike Produksies was on the scene, capturing the event, with all photos taken by Joheynen "YourHighness" Pieterse.
It was a day to remember, a day that highlighted the power of community support and unity, put smiles on everybody's faces and left them with a sense of hope for the future.
