GEORGE NEWS - Jovan and Thelma Heyns, popular singers and locals, will be singing at both the tribute and funeral of South African rugby legend, Chester Williams.
Williams passed away suddenly last Friday.
“Chester was our friend and his passing came as a tremendous shock to us," said Jovan and Thelma. "Our hearts go out to Maria, Ryan, Matthew and Chloe, the Williams family and all who loved our Chessie. We ask that the Williams family be kept in your hearts and prayers at this sad time. “
The funeral arrangements, announced by Chester’s wife Maria Williams, include a memorial service (yesterday) at UWC and a further tribute at Boland Cricket Grounds in Paarl, Chester’s home town, on Thursday at 18:00.
The funeral will be at 12:00 on Saturday 14 September at Newlands Rugby Stadium.
The family have opened all occasions to the public and have requested that instead of flowers or gifts, people please support Chester’s foundation to continue his heart’s work and to help keep his legacy alive.
Chester was committed to education, youth upliftment, sports development and community projects and for this reason, The Chester Wiliams Foundation Trust was started.
Jovan and Thelma asked that everyone please support the trust:
“We support Chester’s Legacy and we ask that everyone make a contribution to the trust, no matter how big or small. Chester lived for his family and that included his broader community. Let’s support his memory and help him to continue change in the areas close to his heart.”
