GEORGE NEWS - Heavy rain in the George municipal area throughout the morning has made certain services problematic.
George Municipality issued a couple of notices that are worth taking note of. George Municipality apologises for any inconvenience.
Temporary closure of Gwaiing landfill site
Due to inclement weather, the Gwaiing landfill site is temporarily closed as accessibility is currently poor.
The George Waste Transfer Station remains open for the disposal of domestic waste.
Please note that green bags will not be collected until further notice.
Vehicle Testing Station closed due to weather
The Vehicle Testing Station (VTS), located corner of Hibernia Street is unable to operate due to the current heavy rainfall which has caused some flooding.
The VTS will remain closed until further notice. Please note the Motor Vehicle Registration offices are accessible and remain open to the public.
Refuse removal delayed today due to heavy rain
The refuse removal in George and surrounds has been delayed today due to the heavy downpour. The municipality will give further updates to the public as soon as possible.

Provision of sand / sandbags
Should any resident require sand for sandbags, please visit the Fire Station in Mitchell Street to collect sand.
Sandbags can be purchased at SSK AgriLand, 8 York Street.
Both LEU & Enatis systems down: Pacaltsdorp
Please note that Both Enatis and LEU eye test systems are down/offline at George DLTC. No transactions including License renewals or applications can be done at this stage.
It has been reported to the Department of Transport. Systems are down nationally. We will send an update as soon as the fault has been resolved.
