GEORGE NEWS - Collection of green and blue refuse bags in the George municipal area resumed on Monday 4 May. The service was temporarily discontinued as the service provider, Interwaste, was not allowed to operate during Level 5 lockdown.
Since Monday the service has been resumed, with certain restrictions. Municipal Manager Trevor Botha said they welcome this decision, as waste reduction is an important aspect of the George Municipality's long-term waste management plan.
Residents are requested to stagger their green and blue bags over the next two to three weeks, to enable the service provider to catch up with the backlog. Normally, two blue bags and three green bags are allowed.
For the next three weeks residents would ideally put out two blue and three green bags, plus a third portion of the backlog bags per week.
"We thank residents in advance for their patience as we deal with collections as quickly as possible," said Botha.
