GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Western Cape Provincial Government (WCG) Local State Veterinarian, Dr Leana Janse van Rensburg, has not yet received the Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) test results from samples collected at two suspect sites adjacent to the index farm in Hartenbos outside Mossel Bay in the Western Cape.
Free-roaming livestock in Kwanonqaba, Mossel Bay will be vaccinated towards the end of next week.

Inspections at sites - ongoing
Dr Janse van Rensburg and her response team continue to visit farms within a 3 km radius of the index farm.
Blood tests are conducted at all farms being inspected. If lesions are found, samples are collected and submitted for laboratory testing.
After samples are collected at a suspect site, inspection teams do not visit any other properties with cloven-hoofed animals for three days.
This protocol is followed to minimise the risk of transmitting the virus to other livestock.
