GEORGE NEWS - The second annual Southern Cape Gospel Awards (SCGA) took place at the Far Hills Country Hotel on Sunday 29 October.
The awards ceremony, which was packed with guests and attendees, was headlined by Gospel Singers Anele Joja, Bulela M and the legendary Lusanda Mcinga.Big winners on the night were George Spiritual Gospel Singers who won two awards - Best Clap and Tap and Best Local Gospel Group.
Their choirmaster, Andisile Hilani, said that they were very proud of the achievement.
"We feel special on winning two awards. It means a lot to us, and it encourages us to continue with the work we do and move forward and just keep on improving. We thank the Southern Cape Gospel Awards."
The two biggest awards of the night were the Man of the Year, which was awarded to Mbulelo Fonqo, the deputy principal at Thembalethu High School, and Woman of the Year which was awarded to Chrisna Du Preez, the principal of Life Academy. Du Preez was humbled by this recognition.
"It was a big surprise, but I feel very blessed because it is for the work I do - working with children, which is a passion for me.All the glory to God that I am here to do that."
Director of the Southern Cape Gospel Awards Andile Xelegu said, "I am a gospel artist and some of the members of my SCGA team are also artists.

"The other members are gospel lovers. So we are doing this out of love, for the love of God and for the love of our community."
Xelegu was also grateful for the turnout.
"I did not expect so many people here tonight, it is very humbling to see so many people coming to support the Southern Cape Gospel Awards."
Life Community Services CEO Maryna de Vries was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 17 years of involvement, dedication and work towards the development and work in George communities through Life.
