Update
GEORGE NEWS - The month of August saw a flow of butternut soup coming through the doors of the Garden Route Food Pantry as the very first Soup-A-Hero entries were delivered.
The flavour of the month was butternut soup, and the goal was to identify the best butternut soup chef in George.
The official judges for this contest are Chef Bruce Gates (Cracked Pepper Food Company), Chef François Ferreira (François Ferreira Academy) and Chef Zims (The Marshmallow Café). The winner receives a meal voucher from Upstairs at Harrys and wonderful bragging rights!
And the person who makes the best butternut soup in George is... Lynette Nicholas!
The competition, launched by the Food Pantry, is an initiative to draw support for the feeding of many who have little to no food.
Each month a new soup flavour will be announced and entries are invited from individuals, restaurants, hotels or even local businesses.
Entry is free, and only requires a one-litre tub of the entry soup, as well as a five-litre bucket of any soup for the purpose of donating to the poor. (Buckets are available from the Food Pantry on request)
The soup of the month in September is vegetable soup.
