GEORGE NEWS - The George parkrun has been cancelled until further notice due to extensive damage to parts of the course in the forest, following the recent floods on Monday 22 November.
According to liaison officer Wayne Ryder their core team completed an in-depth survey on Wednesday on the total damage.
“The worst is that both bridges have been washed away. These both need to be rebuilt before we can think of re-launching another parkrun,” said Ryder. “Therefore all future parkruns will be cancelled until further notice.”
One of the bridges was found near its original position, but a section of the other bridge was swept downstream and has not been found yet.
“A maintenance team will be called for soon to assist in the rebuild of the bridges,” said Ryder.
“We will advise when we are ready to commence the next parkrun.” For more information send a WhatsApp to Ryder on 074 124 8596.
