GEORGE NEWS - George joined communities across the country and globe in the international Lights On After School campaign on Saturday 24 October, celebrating the role of after school programmes in shaping young lives.
Womb to Tomb, a dedicated implementing partner of YearBeyond and YeBoneers (youth volunteers), worked together to create an unforgettable afternoon of fun and celebration, showcasing the power and impact of these activities.
The day was filled with dynamic activations that highlighted the importance of safe, engaging spaces for learners after school hours. YearBeyond, a national Youth Service Programme, provides young people with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience and develop personally and professionally.
"As part of YearBeyond’s vision, this initiative is committed to creating pathways to economic opportunities, developing engaged citizens, and fostering lifelong learning," said Debbie Bruce from Womb to Tomb.
The young people are running a range of after school programmes to support the development of essential life skills, provide academic support, and offer children a sense of belonging and purpose.
“After-school programmes like these are vital to building a brighter future for our children and youth, who often face challenges. They do not just keep kids safe and give support; they provide hope and opportunities for growth, learning, and community connection.
"With a turnout that exceeded expectations, this year’s Lights On After School campaign reminded everyone of the critical role these programmes play in nurturing the next generation," said Bruce.
