GEORGE NEWS - The police intercepted a truck on the N12 outside George on 4 December and seized cocaine worth an estimated R3.6m, following an intelligence-driven operation by the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation (OCI) Narcotics Unit.
According to the police, the officers had received a tip-off about a truck being driven from Johannesburg to George, reportedly carrying drugs.
The vehicle was stopped and searched, and a box containing 6kg of cocaine was discovered in the cabin.
A 46-year-old man was arrested on a charge of dealing in cocaine. He is expected to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court on Monday 8 December.
The police believe the consignment was destined for a local drug den. Investigators are now working to determine the shipment’s origin and possible links to broader drug trafficking networks.
The Western Cape’s provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, commended the team for preventing the drugs from reaching the communities. “They played their part in ensuring these drugs never make it to the streets,” he said.
