GEORGE NEWS - George knitters will be among hundreds of South Africans taking part in Worldwide Knit in Public Day on Saturday 13 June, as part of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative that continues to grow across the country and beyond.
The George KnitWits will gather at Outeniqua Lifestyle Centre from 10:00, welcoming experienced crafters and first-time knitters alike.
Needles, hooks, wool, refreshments and plenty of encouragement will be available as the group comes together in a shared celebration of creativity, connection and community spirit.
The local gathering forms part of a wider national programme of activations marking Worldwide Knit in Public Day, with community groups and retailers opening their doors to encourage participation in the global knitting movement.
In Cape Town, KnitWits will meet at Blue Route Mall, while Hermanus Ocean Basket will host a community knit-in with participants aiming to complete 67 squares for future blanket projects.
The 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day movement encourages people to knit and crochet blankets for those in need, turning a simple craft into a symbol of warmth, dignity and compassion.
