GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route District Municipality is set to host a series of workshops for food traders from 16 to 28 September, aimed at strengthening food safety and hygiene practices in informal food businesses.
The refresher sessions are designed for individuals who own, operate or work at informal food premises, providing them with practical guidance on the legal requirements and responsibilities involved in running a food business.
Environmental Health Practitioners will facilitate the workshops, covering key areas including health and hygiene practices, food safety and the requirements for compliant food premises.
The municipality says the interactive sessions will give food traders an opportunity to refresh their knowledge, address potential gaps in their practices and gain valuable guidance that can help improve their day-to-day operations.
The initiative forms part of efforts to ensure that food businesses understand their responsibilities while protecting consumers and promoting safe food-handling practices across the district.
Food traders are encouraged to make use of the workshops as an opportunity to engage directly with Environmental Health Practitioners and gain a clearer understanding of the standards expected of them.
