GEORGE NEWS - Flame, a nine-year-old Siberian husky, has been barking her way around the George parkrun since 16 December 2023 as part of her weekly exercise routine.
Apart from two weekends during this time, Flame has made her way around the forest with various parkrunners as the event only permits one dog per athlete.
Her owner, Sean Snyman, says she has become a firm favourite among the participants as she is friendly and does not mind other dogs.
Unfortunately, unlike her human counterparts, she will not get recognised for officially having completed her 25-event milestone, however, it did not deter Snyman to celebrate the achievement.
"She deserves to have her picture taken and hopefully she will encourage other dog owners to become actively involved in getting their pets moving. Far too many animals are overweight, frustrated and never see anything but the properties they are locked up in," said Snyman.
"We are looking at creating a parallel event called the Barkrun and will be approaching pet medical aid providers to assist in incentivising the owners."
