GEORGE NEWS - Roekayda Adams is once again mourning the loss of a son.
This Conville mother is heartbroken after her youngest son, the 18-year-old Renaldo Adams, was fatally stabbed in front of their home in Parsons Street on 31 January - less than two years after her eldest son, Lee Roy, had also been stabbed to death in Rosemoor on 24 September 2024.
Speaking to George Herald, Roekayda said Renaldo had matriculated from Van Kervel School last year and was preparing to start a temporary job while waiting to join the army. She is currently receiving medication to help her cope with the trauma.
Van Kervel School paid tribute to its former learner on Facebook: "It is with sadness that we share the tragic news that one of our 2025 matriculants, Renaldo Adams, passed away." The school extended its heartfelt sympathy to his family, loved ones and friends.
Family friend Surika Malgas described Renaldo as a loving and respectful young man. "He was a good child with very good manners. He supported his mother and others. It is heartbreaking to lose someone who had so much respect and love for people," she said.
According to the police, an argument allegedly broke out while a group of people were socialising in the street. During the altercation, a 35-year-old man allegedly stabbed Renaldo in the neck. He was declared dead on the scene.
The suspect later handed himself over to the police and was charged with murder.
He was granted bail of R500 and will appear in the George Magistrate's Court again on 18 March.
Renaldo was laid to rest last weekend.
