As top student she is off to England where she has been placed in a 'Commis Chef' junior chef position.
She also won the Best Student award for cake decorating and after the graduation ceremony she said she is elated at having been been placed with a luxury hotel, the Ellenburough Park Hotel in Cheltenham, England. Her parents, Pieter Janse van Rensburg and mother Sharon Wentzel, were there to witness the proud moment, along with the parents of the other 10 fellow students.
At the graduation ceremony, the high spirited vice-principal, Carol Wicht, gave a motivational speech to the graduates. "Tonight you have achieved the first big steps towards your future. You have earned the right to enter this wonderful profession. You are heading for the top and the world is your oyster. You are cutting the nurturing apron strings of your mentors and now it is up to you, now is the time to shine, reach out and embrace the opportunities that lie before you, choose well and grow your career, never give up your dream towards the sought after title 'Executive Chef'."
Wicht mentioned the career possibilities that the aca-demy opens for graduates and commented that one of the graduates had managed to be promoted to the position of Head Pastry Chef on the 6 star Crystal (passenger) Liners.
The Best Student in Cooking award was handed over to Craig Middleton and the Best Student in Baking to Nasley Arnoldus.
A Pattiserie Diploma was awarded to Anne-Marie Ferreira. The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) HOD Dr Marion Doubell and food lover Mandi Botha gave encouraging and motivational messages to the students. The ceremony was followed by a delicious spread offered at the academy's premises at PW Botha School in George.
