EDEN DISTRICT NEWS - It has been confirmed that all the wildfires in the Eden District have been caused by lightning.
A recce flight will be conducted tomorrow morning at first light.
The situation at the moment is as follows:
De Vlugt 1 (George) fire is managed by MTO
• No professional firefighters at this stage at this fire
• Trout farms in danger with a northern wind
• Houses in danger with a northern wind
• MTO plantation in danger with a northern wind
Avontuur, North side of De Vlugt
• Farmers active on the lines and managed to hold the fire
Gouna 1 (George) fire is managed by MTO
• Fire still very active with extreme high temperatures. MTO is busy with fire fighting
• Concerned about wind conditions
• Concordia, Sedgefield, SanParks, MTO teams attend
• 35-man crew
• 5 x tankers
Dubbelberg fire is managed by Heinie Muller and PG Bison
• Ground owner is Mr Steve Louw
• Fire still inaccessible
• PG Bison has 20 firefighters on scene
• This fire is burning in the direction of Spitskop
Spitskop fire is managed by SANParks
• Working on Fire teams are on scene
• 1 x Samil 20
• 1 x skid unit
• 12 x crew
Van Rooyen fire is managed by Eden DM
• Eden District Municipality Fire teams are on the scene
• 1 x Tanker
• 1 x skid unit
Molen River (George)
• Eden District Municipality Fire teams monitoring
• Fire has been contained but is not declared dead yet
Swartberge (Oudtshoorn) fire managed by Cape Nature
• Fire was extinguished last night but CapeNature is still on scene to monitor for 24Hours
Jonkersberg (Mossel Bay) fire is monitored by Marius, MTO
• This fire is on DWAFF property
• Plantation in danger
Ruiterbos (Mossel Bay) fire is managed by Jan Makampies and Cape Nature
• Fire is approaching the Robertson Pass from the west
Mooihoek (Mossel Bay) fire is managed by Oudtshoorn Fire and Rescue Services
• Fire is burning North of the Robertson Pass
Garcia Pass (Hessequa) fire is managed by Cape Nature and Charl Wade
• Still awaiting feedback
Herbertsdale (Mossel Bay)
• Fire has not been confirmed
