GEORGE NEWS - The SWD EaGirls have stormed into the final of the Women's First Division Currie Cup, where they will face the Leopards on Friday 9 August, National Women's Day, at Outeniqua Park.
This marks the third consecutive year that the EaGirls have reached the championship match, showcasing their consistent prowess on the field.
In the semi-finals held on Saturday 3 August in Mossel Bay, the EaGirls delivered a dominating performance, trouncing the Pumas with an emphatic 67-5 victory.
Demonstrating their offensive might, they crossed the tryline 11 times, leaving the Pumas struggling to keep pace with their relentless attack.
In the other semi-final the Leopards beat the Limpopo Blue Bulls 32-17 at Olen Park.
The EaGirls are determined to maintain their unbeaten run in the First Division, having emerged triumphant in all seven of their matches this season.
Head coach Elize Arendse expressed confidence ahead of the final: "The final is not going to be an easy game, but I don't think they are going to stop us."
The EaGirls boast a strong track record against the Leopards, having defeated them in the 2022 final, the 2023 semi-finals, and their earlier encounter in 2024.
This history of success has fuelled their determination to continue their dominance and secure another victory on the big stage.
With both teams eager to claim the title, the upcoming final promises to be an exhilarating contest that will captivate rugby fans and celebrate the spirit of women's rugby.
Arendse said during training this week they are working on fixing the smaller mistakes and doing their homework on the opposition. "We are focused and the team is looking sharp," said Arendse.
