The George Herald was contacted by residents who were concerned that the stand, situated at the entrance to the suburb, would become an eyesore and attract undesirable elements that could use the rubble to hide behind or even as camouflage and disappear down the ravine.
Gerald Willemse, the owner of the stand said he uses the rubble to fill in a deep gully filled with stagnant water.
"The water stinks and the neighbourhood is complaining about mosquitos. The area is behind the old VGK Church and is infested with poplar trees. It will be done and flattened by the weekend. I stay in Pacaltsdorp and will never degrade my suburb." Willemse added that he wished people would rather just come forward and discuss the matter with him. "They are making a mountain out of a molehill."
As promised, the rubble was removed during the weekend.
