GEORGE NEWS - The illicit drug trade got a knock when police confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R80 000 during an operation that stretched over two days, starting on Thursday 4 March.
Early Friday morning at about 01:00 members attached to the Outeniqua K9 and the Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team conducted an operation at a drug outlet at Melford Notshokovu Crescent, Lawaaikamp in George.
The team descended on the house and upon searching the premises they found 407 Mandrax Tablets, 130 gram Tik and one 9mm round. Police confiscated the drugs with an estimated street value of R37 000 as well as an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be proceeds of the drug trade. Subsequently they arrested two suspects aged 41 and 45.They are facing charges of dealing in drug and possession of ammunition.
On Thursday night before midnight an intelligence driven operation involving the Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team, Crime Intelligence, Public order Police and Outeniqua K9 led to the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R4 600 at a house at Makhaza Street in Thembalethu. The police confiscated 69 sachets of Tik and 38 Mandrax tablets at the residence. A 30-year old suspect was arrested who face a charge of dealing in drugs.
Earlier on Thursday members attached to the Thembalethu Crime Prevention Unit also arrested a 19-year old woman after drugs was found in her possession at a house at Zone 6, Thembalethu. The members confiscated 33 bankies of dagga, 11 dagga stops, 4 Tik lollies and 8 Mandrax Tablets at her house. Police also seized two scales that were allegedly used to weigh the illicit substances. The suspect faces a charge of possession of drugs.
A further three suspects aged between 13 and 43 were arrested in Ladismith, Oudtshoorn and George, each on a charge of dealing in drugs. The police confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R37 000 during these arrests.
All arrested will appear in various courts once charged.
