GEORGE NEWS - A case of animal cruelty has been opened against a man from Pacaltsdorp after an emaciated little pig was removed from his property on Thursday 9 March.
"We received a complaint about the pig in the man's backyard in Pacaltsdorp and inspector Henrico Pypers went to investigate," said Garden Route SPCA's (GRSPCA) senior inspector Salomé Bruyns.
According to Bruyns the pig was in a very bad condition and could not get up at all. "According to people in the area, the pig had been there for some time and started to deteriorate more and more. There was also no food or water," she said.
The GRSPCA removed the pig and took it to their clinic where it was taken for medical treatment.
"Unfortunately the pig was so severely emaciated, that due to the seriousness of his condition, the vet made the decision to euthanise the poor creature," said Bruyns.
The man will make his first court appearance yesterday, Thursday 16 March.
