GEORGE NEWS - The Codeta Disadvantanged Taxi Association George submitted an urgent court application yesterday, Wednesday 19 January, to overturn a court order granted to the George Municipality against the association in December.
The Cape Town High Court granted an order to the George Municipality on 21 December and served it on Codeta on Monday 10 January.
Arnold Pietersen, chairperson of the association in George, earlier told George Herald that among others, the court order forbids Codeta to operate in George.
This week Pietersen said that they met with their advocate on Monday. "We will now wait for the outcome of the application. The matter is now in the hands of the court. We will make a statement after the outcome of the application is known."
Asked if their taxis are still operating after a few videos were circulated showing taxis being chased and pulled over by local traffic officers, Pietersen yesterday said they are not.
"We have stopped our operations and we are following the court order. If there are any Codeta taxis operating, it is not to my knowledge."

Pietersen added that he is aware that there are passengers that are stranded.
"They are frustrated and don't want to use the Go George bus service or other taxis. I am aware that there are some taxi operators that use their own private vehicles to help passengers. This proves that the matter must be solved urgently."
Codeta vacated its premises at the taxi rank last Wednesday, 12 January.
