GEORGE NEWS - George is set to become the heart of South African choral music with the eighth edition of the Cantamus National Choral Festival and Competition taking placeat the civic centre in York Street from 8 to 11 August.
This event, showcasing South Africa's most talented young choristers, is a collaboration between Southern Cape Sports Tours and the South Cape Music Academy, led by esteemed conductor Jan-Erik Swart.
With over two decades of experience, Swart brings expertise and passion to an event dedicated to choral excellence and educational enrichment.
Supported by George Municipality and George Tourism, this festival highlights the city's commitment to arts and culture. Over 1 000 participants from 22 choirs will attend, turning the festival into a vibrant cultural gathering that boosts the local economy.
Festival highlights:
Friday 9 August from 17:00 to 20:00: South Africa Sings! A public concert featuring diverse choral performances.
Saturday 10 August from 12:00 to 18:00: Adjudication concerts where choirs perform for expert judges.
Tickets are available through Quicket and at the door, priced at R120 for adults and R90 for children and pensioners. A weekend pass is R200.
