GEORGE NEWS - South Africans are being encouraged to make some noise this Women's Month by taking part in Legally You's "Blow the Whistle" campaign against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
At 12:00 on Monday 10 August, participants are invited to blow a whistle in solidarity with victims and survivors, reinforcing the campaign's message that every woman deserves to get home safely.
The initiative also includes a social media challenge running from 1 to 31 August.
Participants are invited to post a video of themselves using a whistle against GBVF, share it on social media, and tag @LegallyYou.
The creator of the most original video will win a prize, and the winner will be announced during the Legally You radio programme on Eden FM.
“Our vision is to make the Blow the Whistle Against GBVF campaign an annual national movement that inspires every community to stand together against violence,” says CEO and founder Marilyn Olifant.
“Our campaign is founded on one powerful message: ‘Every woman deserves to get home safely’.”
Olifant says the whistle represents more than a safety device. “It is a symbol of courage, protection, accountability and hope. It reminds us that silence allows violence to continue, while speaking out can save lives.”
