GEORGE NEWS - The security guard (30) of ADT Fidelity Services who faces a murder charge following the shooting at a shop in Rosemoor last weekend, was released on bail of R5 000 on Friday 30 August. Serano "Boya" Williams (20) was killed during the shooting.
Lindokihle Fetile's's bail conditions state, among others, that he cannot visit the Rosemoor or Conville areas and he cannot make contact with the witnesses or enter their residences.
The magistrate stressed that although the court takes the interests of the community into account when considering bail, the court can't be dictated by their outcry, but looked at the facts presented before court.
ADT Fidelity Services showed immense support for their employee, with more than 20 security guards and senior management present at the court hearing.
According to a statement by the investigating officer read into evidence during the bail hearing, the guard was summoned to a shop in O’Connell Street in Rosemoor following a complaint of a group drinking alcohol and causing a disturbance.
When the guard arrived at the shop, he was confronted by the group. When he tried to remove them, they became aggressive and attacked him.
According to another police officer's statement that was read out in court and handed in, a report made to the police officer stated that during the confrontation, the guard first fired a warning shot, after which the crowd ran away.
However, some of the people returned, one of them armed with a firearm. This person fired a shot at the guard, but missed. The guard fired three shots, two of them hitting Williams in the chest.
When the police arrived at the scene, the guard handed himself over to the police, admitted he had shot the victim and handed over his firearm and ammunition.
The case has been postponed to 30 October for further investigation.
