GEORGE NEWS - Not every day turns out as expected. For Lizette Kalo, owner of Gooseberries Bistro in Kleinkrantz, what looked likely to be an ordinary day at work, changed suddenly when a man walked in and asked if she can get someone to run the business for her for a while.

The enquirer was Johan Anderson of a local paragliding company that offers tandem flights from various spots, including the dunes close to Gooseberries. 

They make regular use of the bistro for relaxation, so Johan wasn't an unknown quantity.

Despite that, it's quite a stomach-churning moment to find oneself strapping in for one's first ever flight.

Kalo says it was amazing. "Scared! But then we were up in the air and it was awesome - amazing. The scenery was fantastic. And it is that incredible panorama of ocean and lakes, dunes and mountains, which makes this such a special experience in this part of the world." All too soon they were back on the ground and returned to the restaurant.

But the day had been changed completely, and the memory will remain.
