GEORGE NEWS - Garden Route Pilgrimage of Hope recently had their 1000th pilgrim finish the route from Uniondale to Mossel Bay. This covers a distance of 274km and takes 14 days to complete at about 20km per day.
Pilgrims can also opt to do only the first or last seven days of the walk covering half the route.
Last week Sysie du Toit and Dalena van der Vyfer, pilgrims number 1000 and 1001, were repaid all their pilgrimage fees - a gesture of gratitude and goodwill from the hearts of the organisers.
The route offers top class hospitality at beautiful venues. All meals are provided and luggage is transported.
Pilgrims get to know the area via the Prince Alfred Pass through the Karoo, over the Montagu Pass and then via Great Brak River to the beach in Mossel Bay.
The route offers scenic variety and true hospitality.
The first pilgrims finished in June 2021 and now, 34 months later, 1000 pilgrims have completed this route.
The pilgrimage is a community project organised by the Dutch Reformed Church in Herold.
