GEORGE NEWS - Two suspected murderers were arrested in Thembalethu over the weekend following two unrelated incidents in the area.
On Friday 1 April, a 37-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the stabbing of a woman, Thulelwe Volantiyo (29), in Zone 5 on 26 March.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, the deceased and the suspect had an altercation when the victim was stabbed in the neck. She was admitted to hospital in a critical condition, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
A murder docket was opened after which the suspect was arrested.
The second incident happened on Sunday morning, 3 April, at about 04:45 in Lukhanyo Street in Zone 6. Malakhiwe Skhundla (19) was stabbed to death by an 18-year-old suspect. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident.
Both suspects are currently detained at the Thembalethu police holding cells, pending their first court appearance in the George Magistrate's Court once they have been formally charged.
Police seek information about third murder
Thembalethu police appeal to the local community to come forward with any information that could assist in finding a suspect who is sought in connection with the stabbing and subsequent death of a third person on Sunday 3 April.
According to Pojie, police responded to a murder scene in 13th Street, Zone 8, at approximately 02:40 where they found the body of Luyanda Natius Toto (36) behind a house where he had collapsed after being stabbed in his neck.
According to unconfirmed information, he was stabbed by an unknown suspect while he and his girlfriend were walking in the street.
