GEORGE NEWS - Sunday 21 September turned into a day of bloodshed and grim discoveries in George, with the police investigating two murders and the gruesome discovery of a man's body in a nearby forest.
In the first incident, the Pacaltsdorp Police were called out to Reiger Park in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to the Southern Cape Police's spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, a fight had broken out between two men near the corner of Copper and Sunstone streets.
The altercation ended violently when a 21-year-old man sustained a stab wound to the neck and collapsed. The paramedics declared him dead on the scene at about 01:30.
A 19-year-old suspect was taken into custody on a charge of murder after also sustaining stab wounds to his shoulder and hand. He was scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, but it could not be confirmed whether the case was enrolled.
"This office is not in a position at this stage to provide any information about the outcome of the appearance. More information will be divulged once available," said Spies.
George Herald has confirmed that the suspect had also allegedly been involved in another stabbing incident at the Latrex Nightclub in Pacaltsdorp on 13 September. "Detectives are investigating an attempted murder case following an alleged incident in a parking area in Beach Road on 13 September. Circumstances surrounding this incident are still under way [sic]. No arrests have been made yet.
"The police are therefore not in a position to confirm details of any individual involved until the suspect appears in court," said Spies.
Emergency services arrive on the scene in Reiger Park.
In a separate case, the Conville Police are investigating a murder following the death of Ray-Lee Mintoor (23) in Bruce Street, Borcherds, just after midnight on Sunday morning. "The police found three men with stab wounds," says Spies. "Mintoor was declared dead on the scene, while the other two men were taken for medical treatment. The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation."
Anyone with information that could assist the police is urged to contact the Conville Detectives on 044 803 3325 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
Decomposed body
Later that same day, just before noon, the public stumbled upon the decomposed body of a man with a belt around his neck in the forest near Barkhuizen Drive in King George Park. Information pointing to the possible identity of the deceased was found on the scene, but the police have not yet confirmed it. An inquest docket has been opened.
"The identity of the deceased has yet to be formally established," Spies told George Herald.
He urged anyone with information that could assist the police in tracing the next of kin to contact the George Detectives on 044 803 4715 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111. All three cases remain under investigation.
