GEORGE NEWS - The George Christmas Parkrun on Saturday 27 December attracted the highest attendance of all the Christmas parkruns held in South Africa on the day.
Altogether 854 people flocked to the Garden Route Botanical Garden to run or walk the lovely route through forested areas at the foot of the mountain.
Betty’s Bay had the second most runners with 821 participants and Century City was third with 790. A total of 32 702 runners participated throughout the country at 221 parkruns.
“Our Christmas parkrun was the biggest one we had for the year and the previous week, on 13 December, we had 741 people, the second biggest parkrun for 2025,” said a pleased media liaison officer, Wayne Ryder.
Some of the visitor participants afterwards wrote positive posts on Facebook. Samantha Botes Visser said it was their first George Parkrun as visitors. “What an amazing, organised and magical place.”
Karel Bruce said it was an awesome experience. The Gautenger also ran the Christmas Parkrun last year and said he will be back next year.
The next George Parkrun is this coming Saturday at 08:00 at the Botanical Garden at 49 Caledon Street.
There are toilets, a tea garden, children’s play area, free access to park and lots of open space. For more information, visit the George Parkrun Facebook page.
