MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Two men, believed to be Isuzu Ironman 70.3 athletes have died this morning, 16 November.
According to Southern Cape Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies two men, aged 29 and 58, were retrieved from the water where the Ironman 70.3 participants were completing the swimming portion of the triathlon at about 07:40.
He said both were rushed to hospital were one of the men was declared dead upon arrival. The other died later this morning.
Spies said the Mossel Bay Police have opened two inquest dockets following the deaths and that autopsies will be conducted later this coming week to determine their causes of death. Spies said no foul play is suspected.
Mossel Bay Advertiser has sent a media enquiry to Isuzu Ironman 70.3 and will add their statement as soon as a response has been received.
