GEORGE NEWS - This holiday, Thembalethu school children are getting a taste of what it is like to be on stage.
The George Arts Theatre is running drama workshops in Thembalethu, Lawaaikamp and nearby informal settlement areas.
The theatre's production team is pleased that the workshops have been received enthusiastically. Theatre manager Heather Stead said, "The kids loved the activities offered as part of the drama and performance holiday club. The project is funded by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and run by interns at the George Arts Theatre and local drama facilitators. It is free for all children.
"The children gain confidence, learn to work as a team, and work towards the goal of performing before friends and parents and local crèches at the end of the workshop week.
"Xolisa Mtshiselwa heads up this project and has done so for the past three years. The drama facilitators include Jheffrey van Niekerk, an experienced intern at the theatre. There are also local performers who have been trained by the Arts Theatre as drama facilitators.
"They are creating a group of up-and-coming youngsters who delight in new experiences and look forward to the Holiday Drama Club's regular activities."

Thembalethu school children are thrilled to discover the nitty-gritty of live theatre at the holiday club, which is offered in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs and sport.
