GEORGE NEWS - Two Rendezvous Cottage residents, Eric and Daphne Scholl, celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary on Tuesday 7 January.
They tied the knot in the Trinity Methodist Church in East London in 1950 - a full 70 years ago!
Eric Philip Scholl was born on 29 May 1926 in Mohale's Hoek, then Basutoland, now Lesotho. Daphne Joan Rentzke was born in Burgersdorp in the Eastern Cape, on 31 March 1930.
After their marriage they moved to Hillbrow in Johannesburg and stayed in a flat for two years. They then relocated to Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), where Eric worked for the government.
For ten years Eric and Daphne lived in various parts in their new country. The couple then returned to South Africa and Eric started trading in Lesotho. After four years they moved to Natal and settled in a beautiful village called St Faith's.
They bought a business and for 13 years traded in exclusive clothing and shoes before moving to George. Eric worked for PG Bison and Daphne worked at a local dentist.
They finally retired in 2009, sold their house in Heather Park and bought life rights of a unit at Rendezvous Cottages, part of George Service Clubs Utility Company.
The couple's daughter Dianne lives in Australia with her husband Graham. Dianne and Graham are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this year, so the two couples share a century of wedlock - mostly wedded bliss!
