GEORGE NEWS - Once you have the number of children you wished to have, permanent contraception should be considered.
The Western Cape Government Department of Health offers permanent contraception options for both men and women.
The George Hospital offers an outreach day on Friday 20 April.
Women who wish to schedule an appointment at the outreach should first visit their local clinic, where the nurses will assist them.
The nurses at the clinic will determine if you meet the criteria, screen you for HIV, STI and do a pap smear if necessary. Counselling will also be offered.
If you cannot be scheduled on the outreach day, the nurses may book an appointment for a mini-laparotomy sterilisation with the hospital team.
Men choosing a permanent contraception option should visit the local clinic to book for a vasectomy at the hospital.
Sterilisation does not cure or prevent HIV/AIDS infection.
Be proactive towards family planning - utilise the assistance and services rendered, such as this choice of contraception by the department.
We can be better together.
