October is World Menopause month, amongst others. What would one celebrate about menopause? Hot flashes?
October month is also: Apple Month, and on a more serious note, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, World Blindness Awareness Month, Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and Dyslexia Awareness Month.

- 5th - World Teachers Day

Here at the George Herald, we like to celebrate and for that reason a number of days in October will be observed. On the sixth, Mad Hatter Day, personnel will be trying to outdo one another by going to work with crazy hat designs.
On Porridge Day (the 10th), Egg Day (11th) and Apple Day (21st) a plan is to be put together to see how the hungry in our community can benefit. On Blue Shirt Day (7th), everyone will wear a blue shirt to help create awareness. We will also be taking part in Bandana Day (25th) in support of the Sunflower Fund, which sustains the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR).
And the 27th, Mother-in-law Day will also be celebrated in our office... we must still figure out how...
Dedicating a month to a certain cause serves a definite purpose and often it is celebrated in a fun way. Increased media focus on the subject tries to arouse the public's interest, and awareness is created of the special and challenging circumstances that many people around us face.
These days and months are a platform to encourage the community to reach out to others. Grab the opportunity to show that your company cares.
