GEORGE NEWS - Dr Mike Alexander, veterinarian at George Animal Hospital, is saying goodbye to retire after 28 years as a partner in the practice.
"My family and I moved to George 28 years ago, not knowing anyone here and having no idea what I was letting myself in for," he says.
"Dr Howard Pettifer and I decided to take over a one-man veterinary practice and thankfully we managed over the years to grow it and so form the biggest veterinary practice in George.
"Many pet owners have become almost like family, and I have had the pleasure of caring for the well-being of their pets, many of them for all of their life. I am certainly going to miss them all, but the time has come in my life where I need to devote my time and energy to other things that have often taken a backseat over the years."
His plans are to spend more time with his family and friends, restore and use more vintage cars and motorcycles, and possibly to travel a bit too.
"Who knows what the future holds? My kids grew up in George and I certainly have no intention of leaving our awesome town."
"A big thank you to all the pet owners and their pets who have supported me during my career."
