GEORGE NEWS - Displaying your house number properly can literally save your life.
Every second counts in an emergency and a properly displayed house number will help emergency personnel find your house quicker.
Your number should be:
1. Visible from the street on a boundary wall, fence or building, and ideally at the entrance gate. If not possible to attach to a wall, fence or building a sign may be freestanding, but not erected in the road reserve.
2. Facing the correct street.
3. Between 15cm (length of a short ruler) and 35cm high (just longer than a standard ruler).
4. Understandable: preferably use numerical symbols rather than writing the words out. 22 rather than Twenty-2 or Twenty-two or 20-two.
5. Visible in the dark: under a light, reflective or on a highly contrasting background.
6. Visible from both directions.
7. Posted more than once along a long and/or shared driveway.
8. For your house only: Two or more houses should not share a number or mailbox.
9. Uncovered: clear vegetation from it and don’t park in front of it.
If the street name board on your street is missing or faded, please report to 044 801 9262.
