GEORGE NEWS - The education unit of the SPCA in George was desperate for a reliable bakkie to use to reach nearby and remote communities in order to inform them about decent animal care.
"Our old jalopy was on its last tyres," said an SPCA spokesperson.
"The risk of our education team being stranded in a distant area was becoming a major concern.
"We didn't know where we would find the money to buy a replacement bakkie, but the number of people who support us by swiping their MySchoolMyVillageMyPlanet card has grown and the funds that have come in from this scheme have made it possible for us to get a new vehicle."
This illustrates that buying your electricity through Power24 and linking your MySchool card CAN benefit animals in need.
MySchool and Power24 have helped the SPCA to afford a new roof to protect its vehicles.
The Mossel Bay branch of the Garden Route SPCA has needed a new roof for the carport but there were no funds available.
“Our vehicles were exposed to the elements and getting damaged by the harsh coastal weather,” said SPCA spokesperson Wendy Jones.
“Our bakkies need to be in tip-top condition to help animals in the rugged areas in and around town. We just couldn’t afford to pay for the roof,” said Jones. “But the number of SPCA supporters who have been swiping their MySchoolMyVillageMyPlanet cards for us has grown and the money that has come in from this scheme made it possible for us to afford the roof. We are so grateful for this ongoing funding.”
