Despite throngs of national journalists awaiting his arrival, he was whisked away by South African Government officials who informed the media that he would not be available for any interviews.
His wife, Melanie and daughter Abigail said that Janse van Rensburg's father had phoned them briefly to say that he is safe and that he would be in George at 18:35 this evening. The family are beside themselves with joy and getting ready to leave for the airport as early as possible.
Asking Abigail what the first thing she would say to her father, she said: “Goodness me, I think I will be absolutely speechless at first.”
